Last season report

2007/2008 season went very well although there were unusual fluctuations in temperature and the arrival of the snipe appeared to be a little delayed to begin with. We also had a number of very windy weekends which made them almost impossible to hit at times. We averaged just under 40 birds per weekend shoot at an average of over 12 shots per bird! Again we had no days frosted off completely and there were quite a lot of woodcock around especially before Christmas – when we were not looking for them!

The less cold winters, or global warming if that is what it is, may be having some effect and it is true that there were slightly fewer snipe on the red bogs. Also in some of the very wet periods during the season, we were walking into snipe lying out in the open fields when we might have expected to see them to be on the bog. Whether it was just the "season" or global warming, our sport here seems to have held up quite well. However as with other "wild" sports, such as salmon fishing, we have to live in hope for the future and there are no absolute guarantees.

Due to rising costs we have had to raise our prices and for this I apologise, but I think and hope that it is still good value for some challenging shooting and a great weekends craic!

Shooting on Saturday finishes at around 4.30 p.m. so it is possible to catch a flight or boat, if necessary, that evening but please note the minimum package price.

Non-shooting guests may find Snipe Shooting quite interesting and fun as, on the open heather bogs, everyone can see exactly what is going on and we do keep moving!
